Stefano Mancuso

Stefano Mancuso is the founder of Plant Neurobiology. He’s a professor at the Università di Firenze and an ordinary academic member of the Accademia dei Georgofili. He is the director of the International Laboratory of Plant Neurobiology (LINV), located in Florence, Kitakyushu, Bonn and Paris. He’s a founder member of the International Society for Plant Signaling & Behavior). He’s Fellow Professor in several international universities. He’s the founder and Editor in Chief of the journals Plant Signaling and Behavior (USA) and Advances in Horticultural Science.

In 2010 he was the first Italian scientist invited as a speaker forTED GLOBAL. The video of the conference, held in Oxford, scored a million views on the TED website.

In 2013 he published the multi-awarded best seller Verde brillante (Giunti), translated into 19 languages so far. In 2016 he wasthe first non-German author to win the prize of the Austrian Ministry of Science and Technology  Wissenschaftbuck des Jahres for the best scientific essay.

In 2014 he founded PNAT, a start-up of the Florence University for the creation of plant-inspired technology. With PNAT he produced Jellyfish Barge, a floating greenhouse, autonomous and completely eco friendly, premiered at Expo 2015, which has won several international prizes. Among these: 1st Classified “International Award Innovative Ideas and Technologies on Agribusiness” UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization); UNECE (United Nations Economic Commission for Europe) 2nd Classified “Ideas for Change Award”;  USA Department of Agriculture – 1st Classified “Feeding the Accelerator” The innovation program of the USA Pavilion at Milan EXPO 2015.

The New Yorker has inserted him among world changers and La Repubblica among the 20 italians “intended to change our lives”. He has written several volumes and published more than 250 scientific articles on international journals.

In 2016 and 2017 he’s been invited by the President of the Republic of Chile to participate in the Congreso del futuro at the Senate of the Republic of Chile.

A passionate scientific popularizer, he has recently published for Giunti Uomini che amano le piante and Biodiversi (written with Carlo Petrini).
